0.3575 troy oz .900 1920 Almost Good

The 1920 Walking Liberty half dollar represents a classic era of United States silver coinage. Even when worn down to an Almost Good state by decades of circulation, the fundamental beauty of the design remains unmistakable. Struck in 90 percent silver at the Philadelphia Mint, each of these fifty-cent pieces contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. Created by the sculptor Adolph Weinman, the coin features a powerful obverse image of Lady Liberty moving gracefully toward a rising sun. She cradles a bundle of branches in her arm, symbolizing strength and peace. The reverse showcases a majestic eagle perched upon a mountain crag, wings slightly unfolded as if preparing to launch into the sky. This pairing of Liberty and the eagle created one of the most celebrated coin designs in American history.
