1921-1925 British East Africa Silver Shilling George V Avg Circ
During the early 1920s, a distinctive silver shilling circulated throughout British East Africa. Struck in 0.917 fine silver with an actual silver weight of 0.0625 troy ounces, this coin served as a daily medium of exchange. Today, it survives as a fascinating artifact of regional currency history, carrying the catalog designation KM#21. The obverse of the coin presents the crowned left-facing bust of King George V, designed by E.B. MacKennal. Surrounding the royal likeness is a partial Latin inscription identifying the monarch. On the reverse, a detailed lion is depicted walking to the right, framed by an ornate decorative border. The reverse design clearly displays the denomination as 1 SHILLING alongside the name of the territory, EAST AFRICA.
