The 1921 Buffalo nickel stands as a classic example of American coinage, showcasing a design that departs from traditional neoclassical imagery. Created by sculptor James Earle Fraser, the obverse of the five cent piece presents a powerful, realistic profile of a Native American. The word LIBERTY is inscribed along the upper right edge, accompanied by the clear date of 1921 at the lower left. On the reverse, a magnificent American bison stands atop a raised mound of earth. This detailed animal dominates the center of the coin, surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Below the mound, the denomination FIVE CENTS is clearly visible. Strikingly, this coin lacks a mint mark, which indicates it was produced at the Philadelphia Mint. Having achieved a grade of Very Fine, this specimen retains much of its original detail, allowing observers to appreciate the texture of the bison's coat and the strong lines of the portrait.
