1921 Morgan Dollar MS-63 NGC

0.7734 troy oz .900 1921 MS-63 (NGC)

The year 1921 marked a significant transition in American coinage, serving as the final chapter for one of the most famous silver coins ever minted. Authorized under the Pittman Act of 1918, this issue of the Morgan Dollar brought the classic design back to the minting presses one last time before the introduction of the Peace Dollar. These 1921 coins are noted for having a slightly flatter strike when compared to the issues produced in the nineteenth century. Designed by George T. Morgan, the obverse features a profile of Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap decorated with wheat and cotton, with the date 1921 positioned at the bottom. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with wings spread wide, gripping an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. The traditional inscriptions "STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" are clearly visible on the reverse, alongside the motto "In God we trust." Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, which produced 44,690,000 of these dollars in 1921, each coin is composed of 90 percent silver and contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. Measuring 38.1 millimeters in diameter, this particular specimen has been certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63), preserving the detailed design of this historic final-year issue.
