In 1921, the United States resumed production of its classic silver dollar, creating a distinctive chapter in American numismatics. This particular issue emerged from the Philadelphia Mint following the passage of the Pittman Act of 1918. Because it represents a reissue of the celebrated series, the 1921 strike possesses a shallower relief and softer details than the versions minted in earlier decades, making it a fascinating study in design evolution. The obverse presents a profile of Lady Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, which is decorated with a wreath of cotton and wheat. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle holds arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. Minted in Philadelphia, this coin carries no mint mark, leaving the space below the eagle clean. Struck from 0.900 fine silver, the coin has a total weight of 26.73 grams (or 0.859 troy ounces), containing exactly 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. With a diameter of 38.1 mm and a thickness of 3.1 mm, this substantial piece has been preserved in an exceptional state of preservation, certified as Mint State 65.
