The 1921 Peace Dollar marks the very beginning of a classic American silver series. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this first-year issue is distinguished by its high-relief design, which gives the coin a striking, sculptural depth. Because it was produced in Philadelphia, it does not bear a mint mark, leaving the focus entirely on its detailed artistry. The obverse presents a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a crown of pointed light rays. Her likeness was modeled after Teresa de Francisci, bringing a personal and modern touch to the classic personification of freedom. Arcing above her are the letters of LIBERTY, while the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is split across the field, and the date 1921 sits at the bottom. On the reverse, a bald eagle is perched upon a mountain crag, clutching an olive branch as it watches the sunrise. The word PEACE is inscribed directly beneath the eagle, emphasizing the hopeful theme of the era. This coin, composed of 90 percent silver with 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal, has been certified in Almost Uncirculated 55 condition, preserving the bold details of this historic debut issue.
