The 1921 five-cent piece struck at the San Francisco Mint represents a classic era of American coinage design. Crafted in a durable copper-nickel alloy, this coin showcases two powerful symbols of the American frontier, rendered with striking artistic depth despite its heavily circulated, Almost Good condition. The front of the coin displays a detailed profile of a Native American chieftain, capturing a dignified and realistic portrait. On the reverse, a massive American bison stands on a raised mound of earth. This particular animal was modeled after Black Diamond, a famous bison who lived in the Central Park Zoo in New York. The legendary creature dominates the reverse design, accompanied by the traditional national motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination, FIVE CENTS.
