The 1921 Buffalo nickel stands as a striking example of early twentieth-century American coinage. Minted in San Francisco, this five-cent piece is composed of copper and nickel, carrying the distinct "S" mint mark on its reverse. This particular coin has survived in Very Fine condition, showing the moderate wear of a coin that once circulated actively through daily commerce. On the obverse, the profile of a Native American chieftain faces right, a powerful and detailed portrait created by sculptor James Earle Fraser. The reverse showcases a massive American bison standing atop a raised mound, a design that captures the spirit of the Western frontier. Above the bison, the legend reads "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" alongside the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", while the denomination "FIVE CENTS" is clearly visible below the mound.
