The year 1921 marked a fascinating revival for one of America's most celebrated coins. Under the authority of the Pittman Act of 1918, millions of older silver dollars were melted down, paving the way for the Morgan Dollar design to be temporarily resurrected. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this 1921-S silver dollar represents a crucial moment in United States coining history, serving as a replacement for those melted issues. San Francisco produced a total of 21,695,000 of these pieces, each measuring 38.1 millimeters in diameter and containing 0.7734 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 0.900 fine. The obverse of the coin showcases a profile of Lady Liberty, her cap decorated with wheat and cotton. Surrounding her portrait are the traditional inscription E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date 1921. On the reverse, an eagle with outstretched wings holds arrows and an olive branch. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and IN GOD WE TRUST frame the central image, while the S mint mark is positioned just above the denomination of ONE DOLLAR, indicating its origin at the West Coast facility. This specific specimen has been certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63) condition, preserving its original luster and details for modern observers to appreciate.
