The 1921-S Morgan Dollar represents a fascinating moment of transition in United States coinage. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this issue marked both the unexpected return and the final farewell of the beloved Morgan design. Following the passage of the Pittman Act, which required the melting of millions of silver dollars, the series was revived for one last year. Because the original hubs had been destroyed years prior, entirely new master dies had to be engraved for the 1921 production, giving these final-year coins a slightly different aesthetic character than their predecessors.
