In 1922, a special gold dollar was minted to honor the centenary of Ulysses S. Grant's birth. This particular coin represents the "No Star" variety, a distinct version of the issue that stands alongside a silver half dollar minted for the same commemoration. With a total mintage of only 5,016 pieces, this gold dollar is a remarkable survivor of early twentieth-century American commemorative coinage, preserved in Mint State 63 condition. Designed by sculptor Laura Gardin Fraser, the coin features a detailed bust of Ulysses S. Grant on the obverse. The reverse of the coin depicts the modest frame house in Point Pleasant, Ohio, where the general and president was born. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, the coin contains 0.048375 troy ounces of pure gold. Legible inscriptions on the coin include the traditional mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
