In 1923, the Denver Mint produced a run of 6,811,000 Peace silver dollars. These coins represent a distinct era in American coinage, carrying a design that departed from the traditional representations of liberty to embrace a message of global harmony following the Great War. Struck in 90 percent silver, each coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal. The obverse of the coin displays a modern, youthful portrait of Lady Liberty. She is depicted facing left, wearing a crown of sharp, radiating light beams. The legend surrounding her includes the word Liberty, and the traditional motto is spelled with a classical touch as IN COD WE TRVST, with the year 1923 anchored at the very bottom. On the reverse, a bald eagle is shown perched on a mountain crag, clutching an olive branch as it watches the sunrise. The word PEACE is inscribed directly onto the rock beneath the eagle, serving as a quiet foundation for the entire design. The Denver mint mark, a small letter D, is placed on this side to denote its origin at the Colorado facility.
