The 1924 Buffalo Nickel stands as a classic representative of early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck in Philadelphia, this five-cent piece belongs to the beloved Indian Head series, showcasing a design that departs from traditional classical allegories to celebrate the rugged beauty of the American West. The obverse of the coin presents a powerful profile of an American Indian, facing right. The word LIBERTY is inscribed along the upper right edge, while the year 1924 is clearly stamped at the base of the portrait. This detailed image was created by the sculptor James Earle Fraser, who drew inspiration from native cultures to capture a highly realistic and dignified likeness. On the reverse, Fraser positioned a massive American bison standing atop a raised mound. The animal dominates the center of the coin, surrounded by the traditional inscriptions of the United States of America and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Below the mound, the denomination FIVE CENTS is boldly displayed. This particular specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the fine details of the bison's textured coat and the strong lines of the obverse portrait.
