The 1924 silver ten-cent piece, struck at the Denver Mint, is a compelling example of early twentieth-century American coinage. This coin, belonging to the beloved Mercury Dime series, is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. Despite its common nickname, the coin actually depicts a youthful personification of Liberty on its obverse side, wearing a winged Phrygian cap that many early observers mistook for the Roman messenger god, Mercury. Surrounding this central figure is the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" along with the 1924 date. On the reverse, the design presents a fasces, which is a bundle of rods bound around an ax, paired with an olive branch. This side features the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "ONE DIME", and the Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM". A small "D" mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin from the Denver facility. Adolph Weinman created this enduring design, which remains one of the most celebrated artistic achievements in the history of United States coinage.
