In 1924, the United States Mint produced a silver dollar that carried a profound message of global harmony. Born from a competitive design contest, this coin was created to celebrate the peace that followed the First World War. The series itself had a selective run, struck from 1921 to 1928, and brought back briefly for the years 1934 and 1935. It holds a special place in monetary history as the final silver dollar minted for circulation. Anthony de Francisci designed this iconic coin, drawing inspiration from the Statue of Liberty for his depiction of Lady Liberty. On the obverse, Liberty is shown in a left-facing profile wearing a crown of radiant light beams. The inscriptions include the word LIBERTY and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST, rendered with a classic V in place of the U. The year 1924 is anchored at the bottom. The reverse features a powerful bald eagle perched upon a mountain crest, clutching an olive branch as a symbol of peace. The word PEACE is inscribed directly onto the rock below the eagle. This Extra Fine specimen is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal.
