1925-D Mercury Dime XF

1925-D Mercury Dime XF
Struck at the Denver Mint in 1925, this ten-cent silver piece is a classic example of early twentieth-century American coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. With a total mintage of 5,117,000, this issue represents a fascinating moment in the history of the United States Mint during the interwar period. The obverse of the coin displays a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design element created by Adolph Weinman. This distinctive headgear often led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman god Mercury, giving the series its popular nickname. Legible inscriptions on this side include the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the 1925 date. On the reverse, the design transitions to a powerful combination of symbols: a fasces, which is a bundle of rods bound around an ax, paired with an olive branch. These elements represent strength, unity, and peace. The reverse inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the denomination "ONE DIME", and the Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM". This specific coin has survived in Extra Fine condition, preserving the intricate details of both Weinman's artwork and the Denver "D" mint mark.
