Struck in 1925 at the San Francisco Mint, this silver half dollar commemorates the seventy fifth anniversary of California's statehood. Composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal, the coin is a striking tribute to the history of the American West. This particular piece survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the bold details of its historic imagery. The obverse of the coin depicts a determined miner crouched on the ground, panning for gold. This design captures the spirit of the mid nineteenth century gold rush that transformed the region. Legible inscriptions on this side include the phrases IN GOD WE TRUST and CALIFORNIA'S DIAMOND JUBILEE, alongside the commemorative year of 1925. On the reverse, a powerful grizzly bear stands as a symbol of the state's strength and natural heritage. The bear, a central emblem of California, is accompanied by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination HALF DOLLAR. The San Francisco mint mark, a subtle S, is also visible on this side, marking its origin at the coastal minting facility.
