The 1926 five-cent piece stands as a striking example of American coinage, capturing a distinct artistic vision from the early twentieth century. This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 64 (MS-64), preserving the fine details of its copper-nickel composition just as it emerged from the Philadelphia Mint, which did not use a mint mark for this issue. On the obverse, the profile of a Native American chief faces right, accompanied by the single word inscription of freedom, LIBERTY. The reverse features a massive American bison standing on a raised mound of earth. Above the animal, the traditional motto UNUM is visible, while the denomination FIVE CENTS is clearly struck below, completing a design created by the sculptor James Earle Fraser.
