1926 Buffalo Nickel VF

0.0000 troy oz 1926 Very Fine

The 1926 Buffalo nickel represents a classic era of American coinage, showcasing a design that celebrates the heritage of the American West. Sculpted by James Earle Fraser, the coin features a powerful composite portrait of a Native American on the obverse, accompanied by the inscription of the word liberty and the year of issue. On the reverse side, a magnificent American bison stands proudly on a raised grassy mound. This particular specimen is in Very Fine condition, a state of preservation where at least half of the bison's horn remains clearly visible to the eye. The reverse also displays the traditional motto of unity and the denomination of five cents. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin does not bear a mint mark, which is characteristic of the facility's output during this period. The absence of a mark beneath the bison indicates its Philadelphia origin, making it a pure representation of the original design layout.
