1926 Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar MS-65 PCGS

0.3617 troy oz .900 1926 MS-65 (PCGS)

This silver half dollar, minted in 1926, serves as a striking tribute to the historic journey across the American West. The coin contains 0.3617 troy ounces of silver and has been graded Mint State 65 (MS-65). The issue itself commenced in 1926 and was produced intermittently until 1939, stemming from the advocacy of Ezra Meeker, who had personally traversed the arduous Oregon Trail in 1850. The artistry of the coin is the collaborative work of James Earle Fraser and Laura Gardin Fraser. On the obverse, a Conestoga wagon pulled by oxen moves westward toward a setting sun, symbolizing the pioneer spirit. The reverse displays a powerful image of a Native American figure standing with an outstretched arm against a map of the United States, holding a bow in hand. Legible inscriptions on the coin include OREGON TRAIL MEMORIAL, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, HALF DOLLAR, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST.
