1926-S Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar MS-65 PCGS

0.3617 troy oz .900 1926 MS-65 (PCGS)

Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this 1926 silver half dollar commemorates the arduous journey of pioneers along the Oregon Trail. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3617 troy ounces of the precious metal. Preserved in an exceptional state of preservation, this specimen has been certified in Mint State 65 (MS-65), showcasing the intricate details of its highly artistic design. The obverse of the coin presents a powerful scene of a conestoga wagon pulled by oxen as they travel toward a setting sun. Inscribed around the imagery are the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR, alongside the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse displays a standing Native American figure holding a bow in one hand, positioned against a map of the United States. This side bears the inscription OREGON TRAIL MEMORIAL and the year 1926. This commemorative series, which was produced from 1926 to 1939, was designed by the husband-and-wife sculpting team of James Earle Fraser and Laura Gardin Fraser. The issue also carries a historical connection to Ezra Meeker, who worked tirelessly to preserve the memory of the famous pioneer route.
