1927 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle MS-64+ PCGS

0.1209 troy oz .900 1927 MS-64 (PCGS)

In 1927, the Philadelphia Mint produced a run of 388,000 gold quarter eagles, representing a fascinating era in United States coinage. This particular specimen is certified in a premium Mint State 64+ condition, showcasing the remarkable preservation of its unique physical features. Unlike traditional coins with raised relief, this series features an innovative incuse design where the details are sunken below the flat surface of the coin. The obverse presents a profile of a Native American chief wearing a traditional feathered headdress, surrounded by stars. The year 1927 is clearly stamped at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, a proud eagle stands amidst the classic national mottos, including "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the country name and the face value of two and a half dollars. Because it was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the coin carries no mint mark, leaving its clean fields to emphasize the striking depth of the recessed engraving.
