In 1927, the Philadelphia Mint produced this twenty dollar gold coin, a stunning example of American numismatic artistry from the era before 1933. The piece contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, representing a time when precious metal circulated as a core component of the national economy. The obverse presents Lady Liberty stepping forward confidently against a backdrop of rising sunbeams at the start of a new day. Surrounding her figure are forty-eight stars, a count that was established in 1912 to reflect the number of states in the Union at that time. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle glides through the air, accompanied by the clear inscriptions of the issuing nation, United States of America, and the denomination, Twenty Dollars.
