1927 $20 St Gaudens Gold Double Eagle MS-62 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1927 MS-62 (PCGS)

In 1927, the Philadelphia Mint produced this twenty dollar gold coin, a stunning example of American numismatic artistry from the era before 1933. The piece contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, representing a time when precious metal circulated as a core component of the national economy. This specific specimen has been certified in Mint State 62 (MS-62), preserving the intricate details of its celebrated design. The obverse presents Lady Liberty stepping forward confidently against a backdrop of rising sunbeams at the start of a new day. Surrounding her figure are forty-eight stars, a count that was established in 1912 to reflect the number of states in the Union at that time. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle glides through the air, accompanied by the clear inscriptions of the issuing nation, United States of America, and the denomination, Twenty Dollars. Along the edge of the coin, the traditional motto E Pluribus Unum is inscribed, with stars separating the words. While early versions of this design minted between 1907 and 1908 did not include the phrase In God We Trust, this 1927 issue includes the full, classic elements of the series. With a total mintage of 2,946,750 pieces, this coin stands as a remarkable survivor of early twentieth-century American coinage.
