The 1927 five-cent piece struck at the Denver Mint captures a rugged, distinctively American aesthetic. This coin, graded in Good to Very Good condition, belongs to the celebrated series featuring the profile of a Native American on its front side. The design, created by artist James Earle Fraser, departs from traditional neoclassical allegories, opting instead for a powerful, realistic portrait that occupies most of the coin's face. The year 1927 is clearly visible on the lower left of the portrait. On the reverse, a massive American bison stands atop a raised mound, serving as a striking representation of the Western plains. The inscriptions on this side include the issuing nation, the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the face value of "FIVE CENTS" below the mound. The Denver origin is marked by the "D" mint mark, identifying its manufacture at the Colorado facility during the pre-1933 era of United States coinage.
