1927-D Buffalo Nickel XF

0.0000 troy oz 1927 Extra Fine

The 1927 Buffalo nickel stands as a classic example of twentieth-century American coinage, capturing the spirit of the frontier through its distinctively textured surfaces. This five-cent piece, struck at the Denver Mint, is composed of copper and nickel. Having survived decades in circulation, this specimen remains in Extra Fine condition, preserving the bold details of its celebrated artwork. On the obverse, a dignified profile of a Native American chieftain faces right, accompanied by the inscription of the word LIBERTY and the year 1927. The designer, James Earle Fraser, crafted this portrait to represent a realistic, composite image of indigenous peoples rather than a single individual. The reverse of the coin features a massive American bison standing atop a raised mound of earth. Above the animal, the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM are displayed, while the denomination FIVE CENTS is positioned below. Just beneath the mound, the Denver Mint mark is visible, indicating its origin at the Colorado facility.
