The 1927 Denver Mint ten-cent piece is a captivating example of early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck in 90% silver, this dime contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents a classic era of United States currency design, showcasing intricate artistry on a small canvas. On the obverse, a youthful personification of Liberty wears a winged Phrygian cap. This distinctive headwear often led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god, Mercury, giving the popular series its enduring nickname. The design is accompanied by the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the 1927 date. The reverse displays a fasces, a bundle of rods bound around an ax, symbolizing strength and unity. Alongside the fasces, an olive branch represents peace. The inscriptions on this side include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "ONE DIME", and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". A small "D" mint mark indicates its origin at the Denver facility. This particular specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the fine details of Adolph Weinman's celebrated artwork.
