1927-S Buffalo Nickel XF

0.0000 troy oz 1927 Extra Fine

The 1927 Buffalo nickel struck at the San Francisco Mint stands as a classic representative of early twentieth-century American coinage. Crafted from a copper-nickel alloy, this five-cent piece showcases a design that departs from traditional neoclassical imagery, opting instead for subjects native to the North American continent. This specific specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the distinct details of its powerful artwork despite decades of existence. On the obverse, a textured right-facing portrait of a Native American dominates the field. The word LIBERTY is inscribed along the upper right rim, with the date 1927 positioned clearly at the lower left. The reverse features a massive American bison, modeled after a famous animal named Black Diamond, standing atop a raised mound of earth. Above the bison's back, the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is visible, while the denomination FIVE CENTS is anchored at the very bottom, just below the mound where the S mint mark indicates its origin at the San Francisco facility.
