1927-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar VF

0.3575 troy oz .900 1927 Very Fine

The 1927 half dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver, this fifty-cent piece contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. The issue is part of the celebrated Walking Liberty series, which is highly regarded for its artistic merit and intricate details. On the obverse, Adolph Weinman's design depicts Lady Liberty draped in the folds of the American flag. She strides gracefully toward a rising sun while cradling branches in her arm. The inscriptions on this side include the year 1927 and the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse features a powerful eagle perched upon a rocky mountain crag with its wings raised in a dramatic pose. Surrounding the central figure are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR, alongside the traditional Latin motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM. The small S mint mark on the coin denotes its origin at the San Francisco facility, which produced a total of 2,392,000 of these half dollars in 1927.
