In 1927, the United States Mint struck a special silver half dollar to mark the 150th anniversary of Vermont's independence and the historic Battle of Bennington. The obverse of the coin presents a profile portrait of Ira Allen, recognized as the founder of Vermont. His name is inscribed directly on the coin, alongside the words United States of America. The reverse displays a striking wildlife motif, featuring a catamount, or mountain lion, walking toward the left. The design is accompanied by inscriptions referencing the battle date of August 16, 1777, and the dual dates of 1777 to 1927. This particular specimen is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, showing only light wear on its detailed surfaces.
