1928 $20 St Gaudens Gold Double Eagle MS-66 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1928 MS-66 (PCGS)

In 1928, the Philadelphia Mint produced this twenty-dollar gold piece, a magnificent specimen representing the culmination of early twentieth-century American coinage design. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, this coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal. It has been certified in an exceptional Mint State 65 (MS-66) condition, preserving the intricate details of its legendary artwork. The front of the coin presents a dynamic image of Lady Liberty moving forward, holding aloft a flaming torch and a peaceful olive branch. She walks amidst a backdrop of brilliant sunbeams radiating from the horizon. The year 1928 is clearly visible on this side, anchoring the piece to its era of production prior to the major gold recalls of the 1930s. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle is captured mid-flight, soaring across a sky filled with the rays of a rising sun. The inscriptions on this side clearly read 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' along the top rim, with the denomination 'TWENTY DOLLARS' positioned below. This iconic design, created by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, was minted by the United States Mint from 1907 until 1933, making this 1928 issue one of the final years of the historic series.
