The 1928 Peace Dollar represents a fascinating moment in American numismatic history. Struck during the pre-1933 era, this particular issue from the Philadelphia Mint is highly notable for its exceptionally low mintage of just 360,649 coins. Because it was produced in Philadelphia, it carries no mint mark, leaving the reverse design clean and uninterrupted. On the obverse, a profile of Lady Liberty faces left, adorned with a crown of sharp, radiating light beams. The word "LIBERTY" arches above her, while the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is split across the field, and the date 1928 rests below. This Extra Fine specimen retains clear details from its original striking, composed of 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.7734 troy ounces. The reverse presents a powerful yet serene composition. A bald eagle is depicted perched upon a mountain crag, clutching an olive branch in its talons as it watches the sunrise. The word "PEACE" is inscribed directly beneath the eagle, anchoring the coin's hopeful theme.
