This United States ten-cent piece, struck in 1928 at the San Francisco Mint, represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver with a metal content of 0.0715 troy ounces, this piece survived the decades in an Almost Uncirculated state, preserving the fine details of its celebrated artwork. Out of a total mintage of 7,400,000 pieces, finding examples that retain this level of original luster and crispness is a treat for any numismatic enthusiast. Designed by Adolph Weinman, the obverse of the coin presents a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This distinct headgear often led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god, giving rise to the popular "Mercury Dime" moniker. The obverse also bears the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" alongside the 1928 date. The reverse displays a fasces, a bundle of rods bound around an ax, paired with an olive branch. This side features the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DIME," along with the "S" mint mark indicating its origin in San Francisco, and the Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
