1929 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle MS-61 PCGS

0.1209 troy oz .900 1929 MS-61 (PCGS)

In 1929, the United States Mint in Philadelphia produced a gold coin that challenged traditional minting techniques. The Quarter Eagle, valued at two and a half dollars, features an incuse design where the details are sunken below the flat surface of the coin rather than raised above it. This distinctive styling, created by Bela Lyon Pratt, was minted from 1908 to 1929, making this specific coin one of the final issues of its series. The front of the coin displays a strong, masculine representation of Liberty wearing a traditional native headdress. This central figure is encircled by thirteen stars, with the word 'LIBERTY' positioned above and the year 1929 inscribed below. On the reverse, a proud bald eagle stands as the central focus. It is surrounded by the inscriptions 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA', 'E PLURIBUS UNUM', 'IN GOD WE TRUST', and the face value of two and a half dollars. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, this coin contains 0.12094 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen has been certified in Mint State 61 (MS-61) condition, preserving the unique recessed details of its historic design for modern observers to appreciate.
