Struck at the Denver Mint in 1929, this ten-cent silver piece is a classic example of United States coinage from the era before 1933. Composed of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. The coin is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, showing only minor wear from its brief time in commerce just before the Great Depression. The obverse presents a youthful personification of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design element that famously led the public to mistake her for the Roman messenger god Mercury. Alongside her portrait, the traditional motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the 1929 date are visible. This iconic imagery was created by the noted sculptor Adolph Weinman. On the reverse, the design pairs a fasces with a wrapping of olive branches, contrasting symbols of strength and peace. The inscriptions on this side include the national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the country of origin, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".
