Struck at the Denver Mint in 1929, this ten-cent silver piece is a fascinating example of early twentieth-century American coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. As a circulated piece surviving from the era before 1933, it displays honest wear, particularly along its outer rim, reflecting its journey through daily commerce during a pivotal year in global history. The obverse of the coin presents a youthful profile of Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with wings, a striking design element by Adolph Weinman that led the public to nickname the series the Mercury Dime. Surrounding this central figure are the legible inscriptions of the year 1929 and the classic phrase IN GOD WE TRUST. On the reverse, the design shifts to powerful symbolic imagery. A fasces, representing strength and authority, is bound alongside an olive branch, signifying a desire for peace. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the denomination ONE DIME, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. A small D mint mark is also visible, indicating its origin from the Denver facility.
