Struck in 90 percent pure silver, this ten-cent piece from 1929 is a classic example of United States coinage from the era preceding 1933. Minted in Philadelphia, the coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Because of its time in circulation, the outer rims of these pieces may exhibit noticeable signs of wear, reflecting their long journey through the hands of early twentieth-century Americans. The obverse of the coin showcases a design by Adolph Weinman, featuring a youthful personification of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This distinctive headgear often led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god, Mercury, giving the series its popular nickname. Alongside the portrait, the traditional motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "1929" are clearly visible. On the reverse, the design presents a fasces, a bundle of rods bound around an ax, paired with an olive branch.
