Struck in the final year of the roaring twenties, this 1929 ten-cent piece from the San Francisco Mint represents one of the most celebrated eras of American coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal, the coin is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, showing only minor traces of wear from its brief time in commerce. Designed by the sculptor Adolph Weinman, the obverse displays a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This distinct headgear, meant to represent freedom of thought, led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god Mercury, giving the series its famous nickname. The legend "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "1929" are clearly visible on this side. The reverse design contrasts the themes of strength and peace. It features a fasces, a traditional bundle of rods bound around an ax, closely intertwined with an olive branch. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination "ONE DIME" frame this powerful central motif.
