The 1930-S Mercury Dime is a compelling example of early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this ten-cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. Surviving in Very Fine condition, the coin retains much of the original detail that makes this specific series so celebrated among enthusiasts. On the obverse, the design features a youthful personification of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This distinctive headwear often led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god, Mercury, giving the popular series its unofficial name. The face of the coin is inscribed with the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" alongside the 1930 date. The reverse of the coin presents a powerful contrast of symbols, showing a traditional fasces closely intertwined with an olive branch. These elements represent a readiness for defense alongside a deep desire for peace. The San Francisco "S" mint mark is located on this side, accompanied by the national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the denomination, which is rendered as "ONE DIME."
