The 1931 ten-cent piece from the Denver Mint is a fascinating specimen from the classic era of United States coinage. Despite its popular nickname, the coin actually depicts a youthful personification of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap on its obverse, which observers frequently confused with the Roman messenger god, Mercury. Surrounding this central portrait is the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." On the reverse side, the design transitions to symbols of strength and peace. A traditional fasces, representing collective authority, is bound alongside an olive branch, symbolizing a desire for harmony. These elements are encircled by the denomination of one dime.
