In 1931, the Philadelphia Mint produced a silver ten-cent piece that remains a captivating study in American coinage. Struck in 90% silver with an actual precious metal weight of 0.0715 troy ounces, this coin belongs to the celebrated series commonly known as the Mercury Dime. Despite its popular nickname, the design actually portrays a youthful personification of Liberty, distinguished by a winged Phrygian cap on her head. The obverse of the coin displays this winged figure facing left, accompanied by the mottoes "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date of 1931. On the reverse, the design transitions to a powerful combination of a fasces and an olive branch, symbolizing both readiness and a desire for peace. The traditional Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is also visible on this side, alongside the denomination "ONE DIME". This particular coin has survived the decades in an impressive Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the intricate details envisioned by its creator, Adolph Weinman.
