1931 Mercury Dime VF
The 1931 silver dime offers a fascinating look at United States coinage from the era between the world wars. Struck in Philadelphia, this ten cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents a classic era of American coinage design, preserved here in Very Fine condition. The obverse of the coin displays a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This distinctive headwear often led observers to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god, giving the series its popular nickname, the Mercury Dime. Alongside the portrait, the traditional mottoes "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "1931" are clearly visible. On the reverse, the design features a traditional fasces paired with an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "ONE DIME", and the Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" frame the central design, completing a coin that remains a favorite for its artistic and historical appeal.
