In 1932, the Philadelphia Mint produced a run of 4,463,000 ten dollar gold coins, representing a classic era of American coinage. Crafted from 90 percent pure gold with a metal content of 0.4838 troy ounces, this piece stands out for its bold, unconventional imagery and smooth, decorated edge featuring raised stars instead of traditional reeding. The front of the coin displays a distinctive depiction of Lady Liberty, who wears an Native American war bonnet. Thirteen stars arch over her head, representing the original colonies, while the word Liberty is clearly inscribed across her hair band. The year 1932 is positioned directly beneath her portrait. On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle stands in profile. The design incorporates several key inscriptions, including United States of America, the mottoes E Pluribus Unum and In God We Trust, and the face value of Ten Dollars. Because this issue was struck in Philadelphia, it bears no mint mark, making it a clean and remarkable example of early twentieth century American design.
