The 1935 ten-cent piece, commonly known as the Mercury Dime, is a captivating example of early twentieth-century American coinage. Struck in 0.900 fine silver with a precious metal content of 0.0715 troy ounces, this coin represents a period of artistic transition in United States currency. This particular specimen is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, retaining much of its original luster and detail from the Philadelphia Mint. On the obverse, the design by Adolph Weinman presents a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with wings. This distinctive headgear, intended to symbolize freedom of thought, led to the popular but mistaken identification of the figure as the Roman messenger god, Mercury. The legend "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "1935" are clearly visible alongside this iconic portrait. The reverse of the coin displays a fasces, a classical Roman symbol consisting of a bundle of rods bound around an ax, which is closely intertwined with an olive branch.
