1935 Mercury Dime Good/VF
Struck in the mid-twentieth century, this 10 cent piece from 1935 is a notable example of United States coinage. Made of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Because of its age and circulation, the outer rim of this piece may display some visible wear, reflecting its journey through commerce. The obverse side presents a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wings. This distinctive headwear led to the popular nickname for the series, though the design actually represents freedom of thought. Surrounding this central figure is the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the 1935 date of issue. On the reverse, the imagery shifts to a fasces bound with an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. The inscriptions on this side include the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", and the Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM", which translates to "out of many, one". This classic design was created by the artist Adolph Weinman.
