The 10 cent denomination in the United States took on a remarkably poetic form in the early twentieth century. This 1935 silver dime, struck at the San Francisco Mint, showcases a design by Adolph Weinman that has captivated observers for generations. Commonly referred to as the Mercury Dime, the obverse actually portrays a youthful personification of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, symbolizing freedom of thought. Legible inscriptions on this side include the classic phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" alongside the 1935 date. Crafted from 90% silver with a precious metal content of 0.0715 troy ounces, the reverse of the coin presents a powerful contrast in imagery. It features a traditional fasces, representing strength and unity, intertwined with an olive branch that symbolizes peace. The reverse inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DIME," and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," with the distinct "S" mint mark indicating its origins in San Francisco.
