In 1936, the United States marked a century of Arkansas statehood with a special silver half dollar that departed from the usual designs of the era. This coin, struck in 90% silver, contains 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal and features a total mintage of just 25,265 pieces. It stands out as a fascinating artifact of mid-1930s American coinage. The obverse of the coin breaks from the traditional depictions of presidents or allegorical figures by showcasing Joseph T. Robinson, a prominent Democratic senator from Arkansas. His portrait is framed by the inscriptions ARKANSAS CENTENNIAL and LIBERTY, alongside the dual dates of 1836 to 1936, which commemorate the state's century of history.
