Struck at the Denver Mint, this 1936 silver half dollar marks the one hundredth anniversary of Arkansas joining the United States. With a composition containing 0.3617 ounces of silver, the coin represents a limited production run from a total original mintage of just 9,660 pieces. This specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the intricate details of its unique mid-1930s artistry. The obverse of the coin features a dual portrait showing the side-by-side heads of an Indigenous chief from the year 1836 and an American woman from 1935. To the right of the face value on this side, the Denver "D" mint mark is clearly visible. The design was created by Edward Everett Burr, with the physical models for the coin prepared by Emily Bates. On the reverse, a powerful eagle stands positioned in front of the Arkansas state flag. The inscriptions on this side include "United States of America" alongside the denomination of "Half Dollar". Other traditional mottos such as "In God We Trust" and "E Pluribus Unum" are also integrated into the design, creating a fascinating artifact of early twentieth-century American commemorative coinage.
