1936-D Boone Half Dollar Commem MS-67 PCGS

0.3617 troy oz .900 1936 MS-67 (PCGS)

This exceptional silver coin from 1936, struck at the Denver Mint, celebrates the life and adventures of Daniel Boone, a legendary American pioneer. With a silver content of 0.3617 troy ounces and a purity of 90 percent, this specimen is certified in an extraordinary Mint State 65 (MS-67) condition, making it a remarkable survivor from a very limited original mintage of just 5,005 pieces. The obverse of the coin presents a stylized, left-facing portrait of Daniel Boone himself. The design honors his legacy as an explorer who charted the wilderness of Kentucky from 1769 to 1771, eventually establishing the settlement of Boonesboro in 1775. The legible inscriptions on the coin include the name DANIEL BOONE and the designation PIONEER YEAR, alongside the dual dates of 1934 and 1936. On the reverse, a dramatic scene unfolds showing Boone standing face-to-face with Chief Blackfish of the Chillicothe tribe, representing the peace negotiated between them. This historical encounter is set against a detailed background featuring the blockhouse of Boonesboro on the left side and a rising sun on the right. Sculpted by Augustus Lukeman, this commemorative half dollar captures a pivotal era of early American history in exquisite detail.
