In 1936, the Denver Mint struck a limited run of silver half dollars commemorating the capital city of Columbia, South Carolina. This particular specimen is preserved in an exceptional Mint State 67 condition, showcasing the intricate details of a production run that totaled just 8,009 pieces. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal and carries the official backing of the United States Mint. The obverse of the coin features a striking depiction of Justice standing between two distinct state house buildings, representing the historical progression of the state capital. This side is inscribed with the words LIBERTY and COLUMBIA, alongside the dual dates of 1786 and 1936, marking the centennial anniversary of the city. The reverse design highlights the iconic South Carolina state tree, the palmetto, surrounded by the national inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, HALF DOLLAR, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST.
