1936-D Mercury Dime Good/VF
In 1936, the Denver Mint produced a ten-cent piece that remains one of the most celebrated designs in American coinage. Struck in 90% fine silver with a precious metal weight of 0.0715 troy ounces, this coin belongs to the beloved series popularly known as the Mercury Dime. Despite its common nickname, the obverse actually portrays a youthful personification of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a powerful symbol of freedom of thought. Designed by the artist Adolph Weinman, the coin balances this striking portrait with a highly symbolic reverse. On the back, a fasces, representing strength and unity, is intertwined with an olive branch of peace. This elegant combination of imagery speaks to the ideals of the era. Legible inscriptions on the coin include the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" alongside the date on the obverse, while the reverse displays "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination "ONE DIME".
